Location and Hours

You’ll find this historic area off Highway 49, just three miles from the small town of Sonora, CA.  Since this park is also a town, it never actually closes!  However, most of the attractions within the town open at 10:00 a.m. and close at 5:00 p.m.

Columbia State Historic Park Activities

Once a hotspot for gold, Columbia was the second-largest city in all of California for years.  Although most gold mining towns in this state were eventually deserted and forgotten, Columbia was preserved by becoming a State Historic Park in 1945.  Today, you can still explore this intriguing background by exploring the park’s many monuments and activities.  Take a ride in a 100-year-old stagecoach to tour the town, browse the many interesting exhibits at the museum, and visit the historic restaurants and shops throughout the area.
