Everything You Need to Know about the Columbia State Historic Park

Location and Hours

You’ll find this historic area off Highway 49, just three miles from the small town of Sonora, CA.  Since this park is also a town, it never actually closes!  However, most of the attractions within the town open at 10:00 a.m. and close at 5:00 p.m.

Columbia State Historic Park Activities

Once a hotspot for gold, Columbia was the second-largest city in all of California for years.  Although most gold mining towns in this state were eventually deserted and forgotten, Columbia was preserved by becoming a State Historic Park in 1945.  Today, you can still explore this intriguing background by exploring the park’s many monuments and activities.  Take a ride in a 100-year-old stagecoach to tour the town, browse the many interesting exhibits at the museum, and visit the historic restaurants and shops throughout the area.

Columbia State Historic Park Events

In addition to these fun activities, you can also attend some of the numerous events held here to further enhance your visit.  The Columbia State Historic Park creates a variety of events and programs to entertain the community as well as educate them about this area’s past.  Gold Rush Days is an event held the second Saturday of every month that features exhibits and interactive activities.  They also host a farmers’ market, historic reenactments, parades, and much more!  Check their events calendar so you don’t miss any fun events.
