We came across this tank-truck (see the tires) at Tioga Pass Resort. Very "Wow!"

Blogging anyone?
So, I try to stay up on the business of the internet and much is written about blogging as the next marketing "thing."
So, now we blog. Its not fancy and rather random, but always themed around the Yosemite region, the Hotel Charlotte or Groveland.

Dear Friends,
With the summer upon us it seems this newsletter is getting out closer and closer to the end of the month, instead of the beginning. Ahhha! —that just gives you more time to plan your July Yosemite visit!

Katy Fitzgerald, showing at Mountain Sage on 7/2Groveland Art Stroll: Our second GAS is this coming Sunday, July 2nd from 11am to 5ish. We have a handful of fresh artists joining us in new places along Main Street and Back Street. Featured artists include Katy Fiztgerald and Eddie Pavlu at Mountain Sage and Judith Maguire with her lovely bird watercolors in downtown. Don't miss stops at the Groveland Hotel for lunch in the Courtyard and the Sierra Professional Artists show in the upper courtyard. More local artists works will be found at the new Whitewolf Gallery on Back Street and Kathy Seaton will be presenting sculpting demos in front of the Merchantile.  This event is sponsored by the Yosemite Chamber of Commerce.

News from Yosemite: The good news is the park is open and awaiting your visit! This includes: Highway 120 over Tioga Pass, Glacier Point road and the cables are up on Half Dome.

Yosemite Press release dated 6/30 says this about the High Country services:

...Among the facilities now open is the Tuolumne Meadows Wilderness Center. The Tuolumne Meadows Visitor Center will open tomorrow for the summer season. It will be open daily from 9am to 6pm. Many area campgrounds including White Wolf, Tamarack Flat, and Crane Flat are now open for the season. Both Tamarack Flat and Crane Flat have first-come, first-served campsites available. Additionally, the Bridalveil Creek campground (located off of the Glacier Point Road) is open and available for first come, first-served campers.

The Tuolumne Meadows Store, the gas station, and Tuolumne Meadows Lodge and the White Wolf Lodge are opening today (6/30/2006)....

Getting to Yosemite this year could afford you some new views. If you typically come in via route 140 and enjoy the day in the park before heading up to Groveland, you will enjoy new scenery this year as you travel from Mariposa north towards 120. www.HotelCharlotte.com/roads-detour.html can offer some clarity on your options.

A quiet spot at Mono Lake, Eastern Sierras near Lee ViningTioga Pass road trip:
Each year we try to get across the pass shortly after opening in order to "see the snow." I always imagine we will be driving through a carved tunnel of white snow, but that is never the case. The drive was beautiful and while the meadows are more like ponds right now, it was a great excursion. We always stop at Whoa Nelli Deli and this year we spent time exploring the Mono Lake visitors center and dipped toes in the lake. More random thoughts on our trip blog.

Groveland quilters sew at the CharlotteSpecial Events This week we had two grand events, the Cowgirl-themed Soroptomists annual luncheon and a Quilting Bee. We have as much fun at the parties as our guests do and always look forward to the next event. When's yours?
