| The town of Murphys is full
of antique stores, museums, art galleries and wine tasting rooms. |
 |
| The Historic Murphys Hotel
is a step back in time and marks the turn off to Iron Stone Vineyards |
 |
| Just another cute stop along
Main Street. Murphys has several restaurants with great menus and neat
settings. |
 |
| Iron Stone is the center of
any visit to Murphys with its many interesting visuals from grapes in
the fields to the flowers that line every walkway. |
 |
| This little bit of gold was
discovered at the Jamestown Mine in 1992 and purchased by Iron Stone.
It now resides in a vault in their museum. Just seeing this makes me
want to buy a shovel and find my own nugget. |
 |
| The vault is austere, the
specimen impressive. There are so many angles and looks that you can
circle the nugget many times and see something different in the shape
with each turn |
 |
| Something for everyone here! |
 |
| Victor and Lynn, resting
before a full day of sight seeing. |
 |
| Go in the fall and catch the
energy of the pick as the wine makers harvest the grapes. |
 |
| Just a few minutes beyond
Murphys is Calaveras Big Trees State Park. Definitely above the snow
line! |
 |
| My mom and dad love the big
trees. They love everything about California and were we are and have
enjoyed as many trips around the area as Victor and I have. |
 |
| This log in the water is on
Highway 4, Ebbetts pass on the section of road recently named to the
impressive list of National Scenic Byways. |
 |
| Another little stop on the
way over the Sierra Nevada. |
