Nothing
beats a fall murder. The air is crisper, the skies bluer, the stars brighter
and the time seems just right! The first Murder Mystery, Murder Becomes a
Habit, held on October 7th was such fun that we added a second
performance on Sunday, November 4th. The evening starts with a
happy hour, some sharing of clues, a salad, a fight and the ultimate crime. The solving
of the mystery involves guests working together to gather the pieces of the
puzzle over dinner. At the end of the evening each table submits a
vote for "who done it" and the voted ending is then played out. The dynamics
of the evening change with each performance of the show, clues construed and
often misconstrued lead to different out comes.
A
little background on this murder setting, the year is 1922. Groveland
is prospering as a result of the gold rush era, the current interest in
Yosemite and the Hetch Hetchy railroad and dam project
headquartered in Groveland. The law is strictly enforced by Sheriff Buck
Masters but gambling and speakeasies are overlooked because the work is so
difficult. The townspeople, miners and workers are enjoying the peace, the
community is thriving and business is booming at the beautiful new Hotel
Charlotte.
This particular evening the Hotel Charlotte is having a gala event
to welcome special guest John Masters, a land mogul from the East coast who
has married into money. John is Bucks’ older brother. John is promoting
the investment of money in an elite resort and hopes to bring the train
through to these parts. Over the last year John has been up buying
property. He claims that he intends to settle here with his wife Dorothy
Stetson, of the infamous Stetson family, to oversee the projects.
Over the course of the dinner guests witness the ultimate crime. Each table
is given a personality and roll to play along with a special clue to share.
Perhaps you are the shoppekeepers in town, or the investors, doctors and
lawyers. Maybe you don't like John and his plans. Perhaps you are just
traveling through and this was a simple dinner stop for you and your
companions. The dynamics of the evening change with each performance of the
show.
Dinner is served around the mystery and includes:
Crab topped crackers & Olive Crostini
Charlotte Fresh Salad
Wild Salmon, Chicken Sauté Sec or
Charlotte Steak with Potatoes & Mixed
Seasonal Veggies,
Crème Brûleé and coffee or tea
This show, Murder Becomes a Habit, is written
by Kris Corey and performed by an all locals cast including Kris Corey,
Charlie Mills, Barbara Klahn and Nanci Robichaud who also directed the show.
Cameo performances by Dr. Donna Wines-Lint and Lola-Leslie and the
unexpected Amber made for some great giggles. This performance was the debut
production of the new theater company in town: Yosemite Entertainment
Productions (YEP) who did a fine job putting on the murder
mystery and we look forward to many more productions with them. For
information on future YEP events, please contact Nancy at 209-962-7389.
The Murder Mystery price is $49 per person, inclusive of show, dinner, tax
and tip. So put on a happy face, a fancy dress, a bowtie and vest and come
on down! Our next scheduled Murder Mystery Dinner Theater is April 6th and
we may produce this show again, we have two more endings that the audience
might vote on, or perhaps the team at Yosemite Entertainment Productions
will come up with a new show...They have a few months to work on it. Coming
anyway, whatever show we produce?
Reservations 209-962-6455. This event qualifies for the Hotel Charlotte
stay & play room pricing.
